The Year Isn't Over. What Are You Creating Next?

Every year around this time, I find myself pausing.
Not because something has gone wrong, but because mid-year is a natural opportunity to reflect.
I ask myself a simple question:
What am I creating now?
Perhaps it's a question worth asking yourself too.
It's amazing how quickly life fills itself up between the Xmas break and annual holidays.
Work becomes busy. Unexpected things happen. Responsibilities grow. Before we know it, our attention has shifted from creating what matters most to simply managing what's in front of us.
If you're feeling flat or uninspired, perhaps you're not in a slump at all.
Perhaps you've simply become disconnected from your vision of what you would love to create. Instead you have fallen into the trap of problem-solving.
I see this often with the leaders and professionals I work with. They're capable, committed and achieving plenty, yet something feels missing. Their days are full of doing, doing, doing, but the things they genuinely want to create somehow keep moving further down the list.
I've experienced this myself.
Living in Brisbane, one of my favourite things is walking along the river. It's often there, away from my desk and the constant demands of the day, that I notice what's really happening. My mind quietens, perspective returns and I reconnect with what I'm creating rather than simply reacting to life and constantly problem solving.

I've learnt that creating doesn't happen by accident.
It begins with clarity.
The creative process starts with two things: knowing what you want to create and being honest about where you are today.
Not judging your current reality.
Not wishing it were different.
Simply seeing it clearly.
There will always be a gap between your vision and your current reality.
Many of us assume that gap means we're behind or that we've somehow failed.
I see it differently.
That gap is where creation begins. The gap drives up tension. Not stress. The tension needed to help you create.
When you hold your vision without losing sight of where you are right now, something begins to shift. Your choices become clearer. New possibilities emerge. You start building the structures that naturally move you towards what you want, instead of hoping motivation will carry you there or manipulating yourself into taking action.
Life rarely changes because we wait for the perfect time.
It changes because we reconnect with what matters to us and begin creating from where we are.
So perhaps this is your invitation to pause.
Not to judge how the year has gone.
Not to criticise yourself for the goals you haven't achieved or the actions you haven't taken.
Simply to ask yourself:
What do I truly want to create now?
Your answer may be the same as it was six months ago.
Or you may discover that your vision has evolved.
Either way is perfectly okay.
Creation is never about forcing yesterday's plan or pursuing what you "think" you want. It's about staying connected to what is genuinely calling you forward, what your heart wants and creating the structures that allow it to become your reality.
Before you rush or push into the second half of the year, give yourself permission to stop for a moment.
Reconnect with what truly matters to you.
Notice where you are in relation to that.
Notice where you want to go.
Then take the next small step.
After all, the future isn't something we wait for and just hope for 'one day'.
It's something we create.
